A PUBLIC CONSULTATION PROCESS TO ADAPT TO NEW CITIZENS’ MOBILITY HABITS

The RÉGÎM wants to hear the local population about their mobility habits and needs.

  • A series of meetings with local stakeholders will take place in each RCM of the region and the Magdalen Islands;
  • All citizens will be able to express their opinions via an online survey until December 18;
  • The results will enable the development of a Sustainable Mobility Plan for the region and the improvement of the services offered;
  • The program will also allow the establishment of six integrated mobility hubs and a mobile application.

Carleton-sur-Mer, November 26, 2022 – The Régie intermunicipale de transport Gaspésie – Îles-de-la-Madeleine (RÉGÎM) and its partners, CIRADD and Mobili-T, are starting a public consultation process, which will help us better understand the evolving mobility habits, needs and issues of the population. The results of this process will allow the development of a Sustainable Mobility Plan for the region, and the improvement of the services offered. Meetings with local stakeholders involved in the planning, development and management of the territory are currently taking place in each RCM of the region and the Magdalen Islands. All citizens are invited to participate in the online survey until December 18 to influence the future of our mobility system.

SERVICES ADAPTED TO THE NEEDS AND REALITY OF CITIZENS

Over the past few years, we have seen significant changes in the mobility needs of the population. Our new services, such as car sharing and bike sharing, reflect a desire to offer a variety of sustainable modes of transportation to citizens so that they can choose the one that best meets their needs. We want to mobilize local stakeholders and the population to fully understand the new preferences and priorities in terms of mobility and take advantage of the collective intelligence to find innovative solutions adapted to our reality,” emphasizes Marie-Andrée Pichette, RÉGÎM’s executive director.

DEFINE THE LONG-TERM MOBILITY VISION IN THE TERRITORY

As part of the provincial government’s Climat Municipalités program, the RÉGÎM received $550,000 in funding to, among other things, establish a Sustainable Mobility Plan for the region in consultation with the RCMs and municipalities. “This tool will help elected officials and community stakeholders to make sustainable and thoughtful decisions in terms of land use planning promoting sustainable mobility, for example by optimizing the public transit offer, by introducing a carpooling offer, and by improving facilities for better user safety and universal accessibility.” pointed out Daniel Côté, president of RÉGÎM, prefect of the RMC de la Côté-de-Gaspé and mayor of Gaspé.

DIFFERENT TRANSPORT SERVICES AVAILABLE IN ONE PLACE

Part of the Government’s funding will enable the deployment of six integrated mobility hubs, one per RCM, by physically bringing together the various modes of sustainable mobility (public transit, car sharing, bike sharing, carpooling, electric charging stations for electric cars, etc.) in strategic locations. Finally, accessibility to mobility services will be facilitated thanks to a mobile application, making it easier to plan and book trips and monitor the positioning of buses in real-time.
